2018 Ford F-150 Power Stroke: All Hail the Turbo Diesel

It’s been a decade in the making, but Ford finally announced at the beginning of the year the arrival of a diesel engine in their segment-leading F-150 pickup truck. Let’s all take a moment to celebrate the amazingness of this engineering decision before we dive into all the details.

Alright, now that we’ve wrapped our heads around the awesomeness of a diesel engine in the Blue Oval’s F-150, let’s look at what this truck is all about.

First off, Ford claims the 2019 Ford F-150 Power Stroke can achieve of fuel mileage rating of 7.8L/100km. That’s a pretty incredible for a pickup that has the ability to tow up to 11,400lbs and carry 2,020lbs of payload.

The engine Ford’s put in the F-150 Power Stroke to produce these numbers is a new 3.0L turbo diesel V6 with 250 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. The only gearbox that can be paired with the new turbo diesel engine is a 10-speed automatic. Both two- and four-wheel drive will be available.

This particular engine is available in the Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum Edition SuperCrew trucks with 5.5- or 6.5-foot configurations.

As is the case with any and all Ford F-150s, you’ll find a highly capable workhorse that’s also extremely comfortable to drive and live with. Inside, the Ford F-150 offers up the latest in technology and amenities with Ford’s SYNC3 system displayed on an 8.0” colour screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a host of other available features like SYNC Connect powered by FordPass which allows you to control carious features in your 2018 F-150 with your smartphone.

The all-new 2018 Ford F-150 Power Stroke hit dealers this spring, so you’ll want to head down to your local Vickar Ford as soon as possible to check out the diesel-powered pick-up from the Blue Oval that we’ve all been waiting for. Oh, and you’ll want to make sure you book a test drive, too.
