2019 Ford Edge: Revamped and Rejuvenated

The 2019 Ford Edge, a mid-cycle refresh of the already popular model, was first revealed at the 2018 North American International Auto Show. With a fresh new look, along with the all-new Edge ST, Ford brought the Edge back to life in a segment rife with solid competition.

With an all-new exterior look, the 2019 Ford Edge features a revised front grille that’s decidedly more sophisticated and modern, as well as available LED adaptive headlights, and silver roof rails. Step around the back and the Ford Edge now features dual exhaust tips for a much sportier look. And if you opt for the Titanium Elite package, your 2019 Ford Edge will come equipped with 20” machined aluminum wheels, as well as body-colour front and rear bumpers and body-colour side cladding with chrome inserts.

But there’s more to the 2019 Ford Edge than exterior look upgrades.

Instead of the previous model’s 6-speed automatic transmission, the 2019 Ford Edge is equipped with a new 8-speed automatic designed to improve fuel economy and perform better – and it’s standard on all models. This transmission is paired with a standard 2.0L EcoBoost turbo four which produces 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.

Another really interesting edition to the 2019 Ford Edge is the addition of the all-wheel drive disconnect. Essentially, this system monitors the driving and road conditions constantly and if it detects slippage, it can send up to 100% of the power to either axle.

Safety really is the name of the game these days in the auto industry, and so for the first time Ford has made its Co-Pilot360 Protect tech standard across all trim levels for the 2019 Ford Edge. This safety system features lane keep assist with active steering, auto-emergency braking with pre-collision braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, backup camera with lens cleaner, and auto high-beam assist. One of the more interesting available features is Ford’s evasive steer assist that will attempt to steer around a slower moving or stopped vehicle in front if you can’t stop in time.
