2020 Ford Explorer: Adventure Re-imagined

2020 Ford Explorer: Adventure Re-imagined

There’s a bit of history when it comes to Ford and the Explorer. As the first four-door SUV to be produced by the American automaker (after the two-door Bronco), the Explorer definitely has a soft spot in the Blue Oval’s office.

So, it’s only natural that for 2020 Ford as taken the Explorer and really taken it up a notch. From handing the SUV over to their performance department for an ST version (yes, you read that correctly), to offering up a hybrid version, the 2020 Ford Explorer has taken on a whole new life.

Let’s start with the design (inside and out) of the new 2020 Ford Explorer. From the outside, the new Explorer is definitely much more modern than in previous years. Gone are the soft edges and rounded front nose, instead Ford designers implemented a sharper quality to the Ford Explorer that gives it a much more aggressive look; which is perfect for the ST version.

Inside, you’ll find a spacious three-row environment that features Ford’s all new 10.1” central touchscreen, as well as a 12.3” full colour digital display behind the steering wheel (standard on Platinum models) that Ford calls its Digital Productivity Screen. You’ll also find a rotary gear shift dial, and available wireless charge pods for your smartphones.

Now, about that Ford Explorer ST version; it’s real and it’s every bit as race-inspired as you’d hope it would be. While the Platinum version of the new Explorer features a 3.6L EcoBoost engine that produces 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque, the ST engineers took that same engine for the ST model and ramped everything up for a final output of 400 horses and 415 lb-ft of torque. Regardless of engine chosen, power is handled via Ford’s latest 10-speed automatic transmission.

With the ability to tow (up to 5,600lbs), handle off-road conditions, seat up to seven passengers, be comfortable and capable, look good while doing it all, and even offer a pumped up performance version for those who want the space and the dynamics of the drive, the 2020 Ford Explorer is well worth checking out.
