2020 Ford Super Duty Gets More Torque and More Towing

With one loud bang, Ford unveiled the 2020 Super Duty a few weeks ago. As expected, it is the most powerful, the most rugged and the most impressive Ford Super Duty pickup, ever.
Powered by a massive 7.3-liter V8 engine that’s all new for the 2020 model year, Ford promises that the new 2020 Super Duty lineup will have a lot more torque and horsepower than they current Ford heavy duty pickup. With the truck going on sale this fall, Ford does have some time to get us the final numbers.
Offered in F-250, F-350 and F-450 pickups along with a range of chassis cab options from F-250 to F-550, the Ford Super Duty provides owners with an incredible blend of performance, towing capacity, and simple brute force; all mixed together in a stylish package that’s perfectly suited to everyday life. The new 2020 Ford Super Duty should certainly continue that tradition.
The current Super Duty features a 6.2-liter V8 gas engine and a 6.7-liter turbodiesel. The 6.2-liter powertrain should carry over unchanged into the 2020 models with its current 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. As for the 6.8-liter V10, that’s the engine that the 7.3-liter V8 is expected to replace.
As for the Power Stroke diesel, it keeps the same displacement as the current 6.7-liter V8 diesel, but it gets some upgrades for the third generation. A stronger block, variable geometry turbocharger, steel pistons, and a fuel injection system which sprays more often for better fuel economy.
The current 6.7-liter Power Stroke has 450 horsepower and 935 pound-feet of torque which is certainly an impressive number, but we do expect things to go up just a bit. Again, we don’t know the 2020 Ford Super Duty’s power numbers yet, but we will be sure to get them to you very soon.
Ford says the new Super Duty will tow more than the outgoing truck which can tow 21,000 pounds in its most basic setting, and 27,500 pounds in a fifth-wheel setup. Payload for the current Super Duty is 7,450 pounds.
