All-New Global Ford Focus

All-New Global Ford Focus

It’s hard to believe it, but the Ford Focus is turning 20 this year. In celebration of this milestone, Ford has re-engineered the much-loved hatchback for the global market, redesigning the exterior and interior look, and offering up more technology, as well.

At the moment, there’s not a whole lot known about the North American specific model, however, there are a few things we do know.

For starters, the global Ford Focus has been built on one of Ford’s new global platforms. In order to make their lineup more efficient and cost-friendly, they have whittled down their platforms and more of their vehicles are sharing. This is the case with the new Focus and it is on a larger platform than the outgoing model, which means more space inside for passengers and cargo – never a bad thing.

Ford says the new Focus will be available in three different body styles: sedan, hatchback and wagon. Although, we won’t know precisely which body styles will be coming to North America until the car appears later on in 2019.

Ford really focused on driver aid technology and the new Focus will feature innovative tech such as the all-new Ford CoPilot360 system that features adaptive cruise control, speed sign recognition, lane-centering, an updated version of Active Park Assist, as well as a segment first with Evasive Steering Assist to help avoid collisions. There will even be an app to connect you to your new Ford Focus, FordPass Connect, which will work in conjunction with their vehicles also being equipped with internet connectivity.

At the moment, only China and Europe’s powertrains have been announced and they range from a 1.0L EcoBoost to a 1.5L EcoBoost gas, as well as a 2.0L EcoBlue diesel. Regardless of which engine we get, Ford will equip the Focus with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Test drives will be a little ways off, but you might want to sign up for one anyways, just to make sure you get some seat time. This one’s going to be worth the wait.
